Indio Reflection
My sister asked us to join them on their week long vacation and we opted to join them on an extended weekend (since we had Juno to care for now). It was really a great time to unplug. We originally planned to hike Joshua Tree National Park, but the weather hit 120 degrees, so we opted that it wouldn't be best to push ourselves physically with a group of kids and adults with varying fitness levels. Instead, we took a tram up Mt. San Jacinto State Park in Palm Springs. The views were breathtaking and the weather was fair and I would highly recommend it if you were ever in the area. We would've hiked the trails as well if we prepared better with sunblock. So instead, we relaxed. We took pictures and enjoyed the views.
The tech age we're revolved around makes it so that you could spend everyday with someone, but not really have any quality time talking and building your relationships. This is also why Chris and I opted to unplug and really enjoy our vacation together. Historically, every vacation I've ever taken, I've always made sure to post and stream what I ate, what I did, and what I saw. It was a hard habit to break which showed me how dependent and accustomed I was to my access to social media. This "challenge" was worth it and I think my future vacations will be focused on unplugging and being in the now and reflecting on it later.
This trip was important to us because the days prior, my sister found out that her cancer came back. She was on remission for a little over a year, but the past few blood tests showed signs of something possibly changing. And thus, her scans showed a tumor in her bladder at 3.2 cm. In the coming weeks, her chemotherapy will begin again, but I'm glad we were able to have quality time together and unplug together before this uphill climb.
